Although Domna: A Novel of Osteria is based primarily on events from history, the plot lines in the Osteria Chronicles all grew out of the myths of Ancient Greece.
Now, although I stole borrowed these myths, the books are not a line-by-line rehashing of the stories. While you might know the basics of some of the myths, I’ve done my best to truly create a background and add dimension to these ancient tales…and I may have thrown in a steamy love scene or two.
Basically, I use the myths as a framework, then build a structure on that framework by adopting them to the world of Osteria (not always easy), imagining dialogue and interactions between the characters, and bringing the myths fully to life. I’ve then added some flourish by carving out a plot line of a war between the titans and gods. Great fun, right!?
So, with all that in mind, here’s most of the myths you’ll encounter (and the book they’re featured in)…
- The Labors of Hercules (The Trials of Hercules)
- Jason and the Argonauts (The Voyage of Heroes)
- Jason and Medea (The Voyage of Heroes)
- Theseus and the Minotaur (The Maze of Minos)
- Theseus and Ariadne (The Maze of Minos)
- Theseus and Phaedra (The Bonds of Osteria)
- Medusa and Perseus (The Bonds of Osteria)
- The Birth of Pegasus (The Bonds of Osteria)
- Orpheus & Eurydice (The Bonds of Osteria)
- Bellerophon & the Chimera (The Bonds of Osteria)
- The Odyssey (The Return of Odysseus)
- The Trojan War (The War of Ares)
