Okay, let me clarify that…
My upcoming new release, The Undead Mr. Tenpenny, is ONE OF Apple’s Most Anticipated Books for 2021.
Now that we’ve cleared that up. It’s time to do my part in this amazing opportunity and tell you a little bit about the book.
Before we start…. look at these screen shots!! My silly little book is hanging out in the same section as Andy Weir and Charlaine Harris!

Double Dose of Good News
Apple also recently selected The Undead Mr. Tenpenny for their Winter Sneak Peek promotion.
Yes, there’s been a lot of happy squealing in this house lately.
Okay, okay, about the book…
Apple wants me to share with you quick answers to these questions…
- What inspired you to write the book
- What fans will love most about the book
- An insight about one of the characters
So, What Inspired Me To Write the Book?
Um…my very strange imagination had too much time to run wild while waiting for my grandmother’s funeral to begin.
I wish I was kidding about that, but it’s true.
Next, What Will Fans Love Most About the Book?
Everything? No, probably not a good answer. I can’t pick just one, so I’m going to say the memorable characters, the snarky humor, the paranormal mystery, and most of all, the piles of pastries that are required to maintain good magic health.
And finally, An Insight About One of the Characters
I could go with the main character (Cassie Black) here, or even the title character (Busby Tenpenny), but I think I’m going to go with Cassie’s landlord, Morelli.
He loves classic TV reruns and reminding Cassie when her rent is due (she’s had issues in the past)….and he’s not the slovenly jerk he first appears to be (you get to find out what he really is in Book Two: The Uncanny Raven Winston).
I’ll actually be going more in-depth with similar questions as the launch date (23 Feb) nears, but I hope this makes you a little curious about the book.
If you want to learn more, keep reading. But if you’re ready to check out the promo, you’ll find The Undead Mr. Tenpenny under Science Fiction & Fantasy at Apple’s Most Anticipated Books.
Work at a funeral home can be mundane. Until you accidentally start bringing the dead back to life.
Cassie Black works at a funeral home. She’s used to all manner of dead bodies. What she’s not used to is them waking up. Which they seem to be doing on a disturbingly regular basis lately.
Just when Cassie believes she has the problem under control, the recently-deceased Busby Tenpenny insists he’s been murdered and claims Cassie might be responsible thanks to a wicked brand of magic she’s been exposed to. The only way for Cassie to get her life back to normal is to tame her magic and uncover Mr. Tenpenny’s true killer.
Simple right? Of course not. Because while Cassie works on getting her newly-acquired magic sorted, she’s blowing up kitchens, angering an entire magical community, and discovering her past is more closely tied to Busby Tenpenny than she could have ever imagined.
If you like urban fantasy with snarky humor, unforgettable characters, and paranormal mystery such as Ben Aaronovitch’s Rivers of London series, you’ll find it hard to pry yourself away from this first book of the Cassie Black Trilogy.

Note: If you’re curious about how I managed to snag this opportunity, the wonderful folks over at Draft2Digital told me about it (okay, they told more than just me, but I like to feel special, so shut up).
I was sent a form and filled in all the boxes, including a insanely quick elevator pitch about the book, what marketing plans I had in store, and a sample of the book that could be downloaded and read by curious customers.
This is one reason why I do not want to be exclusive to a certain South American river. Unless I was already selling well, I would not be offered chances like this. I also don’t approve of that river’s exclusivity requirements blocking authors from being able to have their ebooks in public libraries. Libraries are life and they are a great way to get discovered by readers.
Anyway, I’ll get off my soap box and let you browse those Most Anticipated books at… apple.co/mostanticipated
Yay! Congratulations, Tammie! I’ve already had the questionable pleasure of meeting the charming Mr Morelli in the sample chapters, so it was interesting to learn that there’s maybe more to him than meets the eye… Now go and bask in the spotlight some more, you’ve earned it!

Thanks, Helen!! Morelli was one of the characters I had the most fun with (although I had no idea what role he might play when I started Book One), and I think you’re going to end up re-evaluating that first impression of him :). Okay, off to bask.
